The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) is extending its call for expressions of interest for membership of its Customer Consultative Group (CCG).
The CCG is established to provide advice to the AER on issues affecting small energy consumers that fall within the scope of the AER’s functions under the national energy laws.
The role of the CCG is to advise on key energy consumer issues that impact on the groups the members represent. The CCG's focus is on small customers, that is, residential and business customers who consume under the relevant usage threshold set by each National Energy Retail Law jurisdiction. It forms an important part of the AER’s consultative processes and focuses on the AER’s functions under the National Energy Retail Law and National Energy Retail Rules. However, it is not the AER’s only mechanism for consultation.
CCG membership will also provide a forum in which organisations can discuss key energy issues with other consumer representatives. Individuals with an interest in, and knowledge of, Australian energy consumer issues are also invited to apply.
Meetings are usually held three times a year in Melbourne, and the first meeting for the newly appointed members is scheduled for July 2017.
The AER aims to achieve a balance in membership to reflect a variety of interests and perspectives among those appointed. The AER encourages national and state based consumer representatives to apply, and also welcomes applications from individuals or organisations that represent general consumers as well as those that represent particular groups of consumers, such as (but not limited to):
- consumers in particular states and territories, or regions
- consumers who have or are likely to have in the future, access to new energy technologies (including, but not limited to, solar and battery storage)
- consumers with interval meters
- financially disadvantaged or vulnerable consumers
- non-residential small energy customers
- Indigenous consumers
- culturally and linguistically diverse consumers
Applications addressing the selection criteria were due by 5:00pm AEST on Monday, 13 March 2017. This timeframe has now been extended to 5.00pm AEST on 20 March 2017.
