AC 146/18

The AER has commenced work on developing a mechanism for determining Default Market Offer (DMO) prices, consistent with the recommendations of the ACCC’s retail electricity price inquiry (REPI).

The DMO price is intended to be a maximum price for standing offers for residential and small business customers in each network distribution zone where there is currently no price regulation.

The intent of the DMO price is to reduce unjustifiably high standing offer prices paid by consumers who can’t or don’t shop around.

On 9 November 2018 we released a position paper, setting out our proposed approach for developing DMO prices and raising a number of questions for discussion. We are currently calling for feedback in response to our position paper.

It is important that we hear from a wide range of stakeholders including their views about the factors we should take into account in developing DMO prices.

We recognise the importance of stakeholder contributions and invite stakeholders to attend the upcoming public forum in Sydney.

Stakeholder forum Sydney

The public forum will be an important part of our consultation process. It will provide an opportunity for different stakeholders to hear perspectives from industry and consumer representatives, and to highlight key issues they would like us consider in the development of DMO prices.

If you are interested in attending the public forum and have not registered already, please notify us by emailing dmoataer [dot] gov [dot] au (dmo[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au). We have extended registrations to close of business on 30 November 2018.

For any enquiries or questions about the public forum please email dmoataer [dot] gov [dot] au (dmo[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au).
