On 16 March 2011, Ergon Energy applied to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) for a waiver under the Queensland Ring-Fencing Guidelines. These guidelines prevent Ergon Energy from producing electricity.
If a waiver is granted, Ergon Energy would be allowed to own and operate photovolatic (PV) installations on its buildings that produce electricity. The PV installations are intended to meet Ergon Energy’s corporate responsibilities regarding climate change.
The AER has released a draft decision to grant a waiver. The waiver is capped at a total generation capacity of 300 kilowatts for all PV installations.
Submissions
The AER seeks submissions from interested parties on the draft decision. Information on how to make a submission can be found on the AER’s website. Submissions are due by 5 pm A.E.S.T on Friday, 6 May 2011.
