The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) is hosting a breakfast seminar for new starters in the energy industry.
This introductory seminar is targeted at industry participants, advisors and stakeholders and is designed to provide newcomers with an understanding of the AER’s role in wholesale markets, the legislative framework and the AER’s approach to compliance monitoring and enforcement of the national wholesale electricity and gas rules.
The presenters will be Tom Leuner (General Manager, Markets branch) and Peter Adams (Director, Markets branch).
The seminar will cover:
- the AER’s recently published compliance and enforcement statement of approach
- the legislative framework and rule change process
- the AER’s risk assessment approach
- the AER’s compliance mechanisms including quarterly ‘targeted provision’ compliance work and audits
- the AER’s Quarterly Compliance Reports and
- the AER’s enforcement powers including infringement notices.
While many compliance managers and industry participants will already be familiar with this material, the seminars provide an opportunity for those who are new to the energy industry to understand the role of the AER in monitoring and enforcing the national energy arrangements.
The seminars are free. The seminars will be run from the AER/ACCC offices in the following locations on:
Wednesday 28 October at 9am-11am (EST)

Thursday 29 October at 9am-11am (EST)
- Adelaide
- Brisbane (via videoconference)
