On 13 April 2012, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) received two applications from Alinta Energy Retail Sales Pty Ltd (AER) for both electricity and gas retailer authorisations.
AERS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alinta Energy Finance Pty Ltd (Alinta Energy), where Alinta Energy owns generation assets throughout the National Electricity Market (NEM) and in Western Australia. AERS currently retails to small and large customers in South Australia. Alinta Energy also retails in Victoria under Neighbourhood Energy Pty Ltd. AERS is seeking retailer authorisation to retail electricity and gas to residential customers in the NEM, with an initial focus in South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales.
The AER invites submissions on the applications by Tuesday 15 May 2012. Submissions should be made in relation to the applicant’s ability to meet the entry criteria, as prescribed by section 90 of the Retail Law, and set out in the AER's Retailer Authorisation Guideline.
