The Australian Energy Regulator has welcomed the announcement of Dr Kerry Schott AO as Independent Chair of the Energy Security Board.
Dr Schott will be assisted by Ms Clare Savage, who will serve as Independent Deputy Chair.
The Energy Security Board (ESB) was established by the COAG Energy Council in response to recommendation 7.2 of the Review of the Future Security of the National Electricity Market carried out by Chief Scientist Dr Alan Finkel AO.
The ESB is comprised of the Independent Chair, the Independent Deputy Chair and the heads of the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC), Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).
AER Chair Ms Paula Conboy said : “I congratulate Dr Schott and Ms Savage on their appointment to the Energy Security Board. I look forward to working with them, and my colleagues at the AEMC and AEMO as we work to drive positive change in the sector by developing and implementing the best possible governance arrangements."
The Board will coordinate the reform blueprint produced by the Finkel Review and will provide whole-of-system oversight for energy security and reliability to drive better outcomes for consumers.
