The Australian Energy Regulator has published its second annual gas network performance report. The report covers data up to the 2021 regulatory year and provides a check on how fully regulated gas networks are performing under the regulatory regime.

For the first time, the report looks at gas transmission as well as distribution. The report also expands on the financial performance measures reported for fully regulated gas networks.

The report finds that total revenue recovered from gas customers decreased over 2021, reflecting consumers paying less for gas transportation services. It also found that gas networks continued to exhibit a high level of reliability, with unaccounted for gas levels and distribution network outages decreasing over the year.

The AER will continue to closely monitor network investment and asset growth through its annual network performance reports to ensure consumers are paying no more than necessary for a safe and reliable supply of energy.
