Today the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) released its Draft Interim Reliability Instrument Guideline for consultation.
The Draft Interim Reliability Instrument Guideline is the first of six guidelines that the AER will develop to set out how it will exercise its functions under the Retailer Reliability Obligation (RRO).
The Guideline sets out the criteria the AER will use when making a decision on a reliability instrument request made by the Australian Electricity Market Operator (AEMO). The Guideline also sets out how the AER will consult with stakeholders on a reliability instrument request and what information AEMO must provide to the AER when making a reliability instrument request.
The AER welcomes submissions from interested stakeholders by 26 April 2019. The AER will publish the final interim guideline on 31 July 2019.
A final version of the Reliability Instrument Guideline will be subsequently developed, using a full consultation process, which will be published by 31 July 2020.
