The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has released its assessment of all 13 electricity distributors' annual expenditure claims under the current Demand Management Innovation Allowance (DMIA). Our assessment also provides insights into the total value of expenditure approved and the type of projects the scheme has delivered.
The Demand Management Incentive Scheme (DMIS) is a research and development fund which aims to provide incentives for distributors to conduct research and investigation into innovative techniques for managing demand.
The DMIA, as an element of the DMIS, is provided to each distributor in the form of a fixed allowance for each regulatory period. All of the projects met the DMIA criteria and consequently we have approved the expenditure for each project. For more detailed information about the projects, please refer to each distributor’s DMIA report, which are also published on AER's DMIA assessment web page.
We are currently reviewing the DMIS and looking at the development of a new scheme and allowance mechanism. Further details on this review are available on our website.
