The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has joined international energy regulators in forming the global regulatory energy transition ‘Accelerator’, an initiative to share capabilities and knowledge in regulation as governments around the world strive for decarbonisation of energy markets.

AER Chair Clare Savage joined other international regulators and peak bodies to launch the Accelerator during a virtual event as part of regulatory session at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow on 3 November 2021.

The Accelerator aims to provide a touchpoint for international collaboration, knowledge development and sharing between energy regulators, to support government-driven carbon emission targets and ambitions.

Alongside the AER are energy regulators spanning the globe, including the UK, USA France, Germany, South Africa and Brazil, as well as neighbouring Asia Pacific countries including New Zealand, Fiji and Vanuatu.

The International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the World Bank will also have key support roles.

More information on the Accelerator can be found on the Ofgem website.
