The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) monitors, and enforces compliance with the national energy framework, comprising both the National Electricity and Gas Laws and Rules. From 1 July 2009, those responsibilities include monitoring the wholesale gas market in Victoria (Victorian Gas Market) and compliance with the new Victorian Gas Market legislation in addition to its existing roles for the National Gas Market Bulletin Board (Bulletin Board).
As part of its monitoring roles, the AER has launched a new weekly gas market report. The report provides an overview of gas production and flow information in the key demand regions of southern and eastern Australia and covers pipeline and production facilities registered on the Bulletin Board. The report also provides a summary of activities in the Victorian Gas Market, including wholesale price trends.
By monitoring market activity, we provide information to stakeholders and the public about these emerging markets, assess levels of compliance and identify breaches of rules and laws.
The first weekly gas report is attached and will be made available along with future weekly reports on the AER website (www.aer.gov.au). The report will develop over time and the nature of information presented will also evolve.
The AER welcomes feedback on the report from any interested parties.
Feedback can be sent to: aerinquiryaer [dot] gov [dot] au (aerinquiry[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au) under the heading "Comments on Gas Weekly Report".
