The AER is consulting on cost recovery applications from Origin Energy who was appointed a Retailer of Last Resort (RoLR) for seven retailer failures between 24 May 2022 and 1 September 2022.
Under the National Energy Retail Law, Origin is claiming compensation for costs incurred for six of those events, through which it took on a combined 12,749 electricity customers as a designated RoLR.
Origin’s RoLR obligations under the law ensured the continued supply of energy to these affected customers.
This is the first time the AER has received a cost recovery application following a RoLR event, as part of administering the RoLR framework, so we would like to consult with key stakeholders to help inform our decision-making process.
Our Consultation Paper outlines the details of Origin’s applications, the methodology they used, and the issues we need to consider in making a determination, including how any approved costs are passed through to consumers.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 26 April 2024.
To make a submission, please send electronically to: aerrolraer [dot] gov [dot] au (aerrolr[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au) Please also direct any enquiries about our Consultation Paper, or about lodging submissions, to this address.
