Today we commenced public consultation on the stage 1 contingent project application from ElectraNet for the Mid North South Australia Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Expansion project.
A contingent project application outlines the amount of revenue a business seeks to recover from its customers to deliver a project. ElectraNet submitted its stage 1 contingent project application on 28 March 2025.
As part of its stage 1 application, ElectraNet is proposing $48.6 million ($ nominal) of capital expenditure and the recovery of $4.2 million ($ nominal) in revenue over the 2023–28 period to deliver the proposed ‘early works’ for the project. The application includes costs for stakeholder engagement, land use planning and acquisition, project development and procurement activities.
Our role is to review the prudency and efficiency of the proposed costs within the stage 1 application to ensure consumers pay no more than necessary. We expect to make a decision on the application in the coming months.
Invitation for submissions
We invite submissions on the stage 1 contingent project application for the Mid North South Australia REZ Expansion project by 2 May 2025. Interested stakeholders should send submissions to contingentprojectsaer [dot] gov [dot] au (contingentprojects[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au).
Following our decision on the stage 1 early works contingent project application, ElectraNet will submit at least one more early works contingent project application to the AER seeking to recover revenue for further activities such as the procurement of long lead time materials and other activities, which are dependent on outcomes from the initial early works.
