The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has approved Jemena Gas Networks’ 2021-22 gas tariff variation notice in accordance with its 2020–25 access arrangement.

This is the second year of the 2020–25 access arrangement for Jemena Gas Networks. The access arrangement sets the cost of delivering gas supply to customers over five years. Each year Jemena Gas Networks submits to the AER for approval a tariff variation notice that contains the tariffs it proposes to charge its customers to recover its revenues for the upcoming year.

In 2021-22, the distribution component of the typical annual bill for Jemena Gas Networks’ customers is $10 higher for households, compared to the previous year. These changes will come into effect from 1 July 2021.

The distribution tariff increases are driven by Jemena Gas Networks’ rebalancing of the weighting of charging components for volume tariffs. At the aggregate level, tariff movements are flat.

More information on our decision to approve can be found in our Statement of Reasons.

Gas bills are made up of a number of components including the wholesale cost, retail margins, and distribution charges. This decision relates to the distribution component of the bill. What customers ultimately pay will be informed by all bill components.

The AER acknowledges that energy bills are a concern to many households and businesses. We encourage consumers to use the AER’s EnergyMadeEasy website, our free and independent price comparison tool, to find the best deal to suit their energy needs.
