The AER has today published its Rate of Return Annual Update 2024, illustrating annual changes in market data for the businesses we regulate.
The intent of the latest data update is to provide a foundation for substantive, constructive discussion with interested stakeholders in the 2026 Rate of Return Instrument review, which gets underway in July 2025.
The presented data is gathered in accordance with the 2022 Rate of Return Instrument which sets out the method used by the AER to determine the rate of return for regulated network businesses.
The Rate of Return Instrument uses timely market data in its development. We started publishing Annual Updates following the release of our 2018 Instrument to show changes in market data. In our 2022 Instrument review, we committed to continuing to publish such updates going forward.
