Electricity and natural gas distribution businesses own and maintain the power lines, power poles, and pipelines that carry electricity and natural gas to your home or small business. 

Each state or territory has different distributors. Use the menu below to find out who they are. 

If you are still not sure who your distributor is, you can also find out by checking your energy bill or contacting your retailer.

Electricity

The main electricity distributor in the ACT is Evoenergy. Please note that Essential Energy also services some customers in the ACT and that some remote electricity distribution systems are provided by other companies. 

Gas

The main gas distributor in the ACT is Evoenergy. Please note that some remote gas distribution systems are provided by companies other than Evoenergy.

Electricity

There are three electricity distributors in New South Wales. Each distributor is responsible for a separate geographic region of New South Wales. 

Gas

There are three gas distributors in New South Wales. Each is responsible for a specific geographic region. 

Please note that Evoenergy serves some customers in Palerang (Bungendore) & Queanbeyan.

Electricity

There are two main electricity distributors in Queensland and each one is responsible for a specific geographic area.

Please note that Ergon also serves some customers in southern regional Queensland.

Gas

There are two main gas distributors in Queensland.

Please note that in some areas the local Council owns and operates the gas distribution network e.g. Roma Town Council and Dalby Town Council. If you live in one of these areas and you have a problem with your gas supply then please contact your local Council.

Electricity

The main electricity distributor in South Australia is SA Power Networks. Please note, some remote electricity distribution systems are provided by companies other than SA Power Networks.

Gas

The main gas distributor in South Australia is Australian Gas Networks (SA). Please note, some remote gas distribution systems are provided by companies other than Australian Gas Networks.

Electricity

There is one electricity distributor in Tasmania: TasNetworks.

There is one gas distributor in Tasmania: Tas Gas Networks.

Electricity

There are five electricity distributors in Victoria. Each is responsible for a separate geographic region of Victoria. Please note, Essential Energy also serves a small number of customers in Victoria.

Gas

There are three gas distributors in Victoria. Each is responsible for a separate geographic region of Victoria.

The AER does not have any functions in relation to energy retailing in the Northern Territory. Northern Territory energy customers should refer to the agencies listed for assistance with energy related queries.

The AER does not have any functions in relation to energy retailing in Western Australia.

Western Australian energy customers should refer to the agencies listed for assistance with energy related queries.
